Executive Committee

Who are they?

A group of students elected by students in a UCS-wide vote. There are two full-time officers, who take are year out of their course or work for a year after they graduate to undertake the role, and three part-time officers, who manage their responsibilities on a voluntary basis alongside doing their course.

What do they do?

They represent and work for all students making sure your voice is heard when decisions are made that affect you and raise issues on your behalf. They also direct the Union in the way you want it to be run and to suit your needs.

The Executive Committee is the operational body of UCS Union that performs the duties set upon them by the Course Reps at Union Council. This could mean following up on campaign ideas, meeting with Board Members and Directors of University Campus Suffolk or with the local Suffolk MP or lobbying the students for change.

The Executive Committee meets every two weeks and is made up of the students listed below. Please contact them if there is anything you would like to discuss with them relating to any local or national student campaigns or issues within your School or Campus.

Members of the UCS Union Executive Committee are:

President (Education & Engagement): Jonathan Wright

Vice-President (Rights & Activities): Sam Bennett

School Officers

School Officers represent and campaign for students within their School and also assist in the organising of campaigns of events. They meet with the UCS Heads of Schools to pass on the issues that have been raised by the Course Reps. They also help make decisions on how the Union is governed.

How do I sign up to be a Student Officer?

The Student Officers play a massive part in improving the overall experience at UCS and gain a wide range of transferrable skills that improve employability including increased confidence, campaigning and communication skills.
To become a Student Officer you have to run in an election. For the roles President and Vice President, this is a campus-wide election. For the School Officer role, the election is within each of the schools and for the Campus Officer it is within each of the Campuses.

The next election takes place in March 2012!

For any questions or if you would like to receive a Candidates Pack, please e-mail su.democracy@ucs.ac.uk

What’s in it for me?

The President and Vice President are full-time paid roles. The other Student Officers are accredited, certified and gain loads of employability skills that they can use after they graduate. For more details about the Accreditation Award, click here
