National Union of Students (NUS)

UCS Union is affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS), giving UCS students a voice on the national student movement.

NUS is responsible for running national campaigns that aim to improve the rights of students in both Higher Education and Further Education.

UCS Union is active in our involvement with NUS and annually attend the NUS National Conference alongside student unions from across the country, as well as attending a number of other NUS conferences, events and seminars.

In 2011, Usman Ali, the Vice President (HE) of NUS, was a guest of Union Council and spoke to students about important issues such as the importance of bursaries, the issue of students being considered as consumers and concerns that students have over funding.

NUS Extra Card

The new NUS Extra card is available to purchase online. It's a must have item for all students! The NUS Extra card costs £11 per year - over £4 of that goes directly to UCS Union to help fund our activities. NUS has negotiated many additional discounts and you can get a full list of available discounts here or continue reading below to find out how to buy the card.

When buying your card online, type "University Campus Suffolk" as your place of study; "UCS" will not work. Your card will be delivered to the Union office in the Library Building. You'll receive an e-mail when it's posted to us. If you're not based at UCS Ipswich, let us know after you receive the delivery confirmation e-mail in 1-2 weeks (e-mail NUSextra@UCSunion.com) and we'll deliver it to the appropriate UCS centre (allow an extra two days for this).

To purchase your card online, you'll need:

- a passport-style photo (in electronic format)

- a debit/credit card

- UCS student ID/applicant number (same number you use to log into Wolsey)

NUS Extra 2011/11 cards are valid until 31 August 2012.
